PRP Therapy for Foot & Ankle Pain

Platelet-rich plasma injections that use your own blood to support healing of stubborn tendon and tissue injuries.

What Is PRP Therapy?

PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma. A small sample of your blood is spun in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets, which carry natural growth factors. That concentrate is then injected into the injured area to support the body’s own healing process.

PRP may be an option for:

  • Chronic plantar fasciitis
  • Achilles tendon pain
  • Other tendon and ligament injuries
  • Injuries that haven’t improved with rest, stretching, or orthotics

What to Expect

We’ll first make sure PRP is a good fit for your condition and goals.

On treatment day:

  • A small amount of blood is drawn from your arm
  • It’s prepared in the office while you wait
  • The PRP is injected into the injured area
  • You’ll get instructions on activity and which medicines to avoid
  • Improvement usually builds gradually over the following weeks

Frequently Asked Questions

How is PRP different from a cortisone shot?

Cortisone calms inflammation to relieve pain. PRP uses your own platelets to support tissue healing, so it’s often considered for longer-lasting tendon and fascia problems.

Is PRP safe?

Because PRP is made from your own blood, the risk of a reaction is low. As with any injection, there can be temporary soreness, and there’s a small risk of infection.

How many PRP treatments will I need?

Some people need one treatment and others need more than one. Dr. Opensky will recommend a plan based on how you respond.

Is there downtime?

Most people return to normal daily activities quickly, but you may be asked to limit strenuous exercise for a period while the area heals.

Does insurance cover PRP?

Coverage varies and is often limited. Our team will review costs with you before treatment.
